What does it mean to “stop the aging process”?
Usage and fatigue are the primary factors in determining the lifespan of an asset. Usage is typically a pretty straightforward measure of flight hours, mileage, engine hours, years, etc.
Fatigue is not as easily measured. When an asset is being stored, it may not be in use, but it is still subject to fatigue if kept uncovered outside. Climate, sand, dust, UV, pollution, all contribute to the fatigue/aging of a piece of equipment.
But when you place an asset in a corrosion-free environment, where the relative humidity is controlled (and maybe the temperature as well), you put a stop to fatigue from the elements as well.
The sweet spot is right around 35% RH. At that level of humidity you’re able to protect all the parts of critical assets - and you’re able to do so even in the harshest (most fatiguing) climates. And there’s the added advantage of protecting assets from UV damage, sand, and dust that fatigue armored glass, seals, gaskets, tires and coatings.
The result is an increase not only in the lifespan of an asset, but an increase in readiness as well.
