It might be a corroded circuit board that keeps a Blackhawk on the ground, or a rusted spare transmission that makes a Stryker unavailable. It’s very hard to predict just how corrosion might reduce readiness because it affects so many assets.

The best strategy by far is to prevent corrosion completely, which can be accomplished simply and cost-effectively with a corrosion-free environment. A corrosion-free environment maintains Relative Humidity (RH) at 35-40% which protects all materials including metals, rubber gaskets, electronics, etc. 

These environments can be used for UAVs; rotary wing aircraft, vehicles, spare parts, supplies - you name it. In one facility we built for parts, annual losses of 20% dropped to zero.
