How a cover’s form and fit affect its function.

Form, fit, and function are separate and inseparable all at the same time. They are each an aspect of cover design but inextricably tied together.

We spent years in R&D on how our covers function. The result was a combination of technical textiles that allow moisture to escape in vapor form. Cocoon covers function like no other cover (which explains why they’re patented).

But as the videos below show, all those advances in technical functionality would be wasted if the cover didn’t fit correctly. That’s why we obsess over the form of each panel, the drainage channels, the placement of straps, where to reinforce the fabric, etc., etc., etc. (Yes, “A-types” do very well on our textiles team!)

Improper fit exposes the seals around the canopy, allows dirt and debris under the cover (which can scratch the windshield) and fails to cover the lower windows as well as the sensors and feed-out tubes

A proper fit covers all the windows even in high winds, and includes coverage of the feed-out tubes and sensors.

Of course another part of functionality is ease of use. A cover can’t be too difficult to put on or take off.

In order to get all those elements right, we count on close collaboration with our customers. We are fortunate to work with men and women in the military who are invaluable partners in cover development. They deserve as much credit as we do for getting the fit right while being user-friendly.

We’re quite proud of the advances we’ve made in cover technology and effectiveness, but take equal pride in making sure we don’t waste that advanced technology by letting a poor fit reduce its ultimate functionality.
