Why you should care that our covers filter to 0.3 microns.
Just to put things in perspective, a human hair is somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 microns, and pollen is around 10 microns. The fine sand, also known as “moon dust,” found in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq, is 1 micron. By filtering down to 0.3 microns, Cocoon’s covers keep out pollen, dust, and even “moon dust.”
Anyone who has served in desert environments knows what a challenge fine sand is. It gets into everything. It can scratch windshields, foul lubricants, get in behind instrument panels. It even gets embedded inside seats - not only adding weight, but making the seats hard and uncomfortable.
What makes desert environments especially challenging is the high temperatures. If you use a cover that doesn’t breathe, heat and moisture get trapped under the cover, which leads to corrosion and damaging heat build-up.
That’s why we spent years developing a cover that would filter out fine sand while remaining highly air-permeable. Our covers protect assets from the damaging effects of particulates and yet remain highly air-permeable. Heat and moisture can’t build-up under the cover, which mitigates mold, mildew, and corrosion.
How is that possible? Our patented textile includes a special membrane that features over 1 billion pores per sq. inch.
It’s essentially technology in a textile.
