Dehumidification of aircraft offers tremendous benefits, with a high and rapid degree of return on investment. Rigorous government studies have confirmed the overwhelming advantages of dessicant dry air storage over other methods, resulting in their expanded use from long-term to temporary and, increasingly, active duty applications.
There are generally three dry air methods for dehumidifying aircraft:
- Direct Connection: when the aircraft is basically weather-tight, portable units can be connected directly to the vehicle on the flight-line. This technique is especially useful for active duty equipment where fast response and simple preparation is essential.
- Direct Connection with Cover: when the aircraft is not completely weather-tight it can be equipped with a cover which can also serve to help protect the exterior. A portable unit can then be connected for dehumidification of the contained environment.
- Dehumidified Hangar: whether a Dehumidified Aircraft Shelter System (DASS) on the flight-line, or a fixed-base maintenance hangar, the most ideal controlled environment offers full protection to the entire aircraft from both humidity as well as other harmful effects of the environment.
For each of these methods there are distinguishing features to the dessicant process of dehumidification, including:
Improved MTBF for ElectronicsAbsent the dangers associated with corrosion as a result of condensation, electronic components are more reliable. The DoD has determined that dry air protection can extend the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) by up to 33%.
Easy to ApplyProtecting aircraft and equipment through dry air dehumidification is one of the most simple and cost-effective approaches available. It is a process that has been in use by the military and other organizations for more than half a century based on proven advantages over available alternatives.
DurabilityWith welded aluminum housings, durable polyurethane finishes, and weather-tight access panels, our systems benefit from the highest quality construction. Heavy-duty blowers, drive controls, and electrical components ensure continuous operation for years and are suitable for indoor or outdoor use.
Easy MaintenanceDesigned with quick access panels, roll-out rotor replacement, life-time drive lubrication, and easy duct connections, the systems are user friendly. Replacement parts are readily available and simple maintenance procedures make operation hassle-free.
Environmentally Friendly / Reduced Hazardous WasteProtecting equipment with dry air requires no toxic materials, creates no hazardous byproducts and eliminates up to 95% of the need for hazardous liquids such as solvents, greases and oils. This saves the cost of purchasing these supplies as well as the costs related to their disposal, thus allowing dry air systems to help enable organizations to meet new guidelines for hazardous waste reduction without sacrificing protection.
Commercial, Off-the-Shelf SolutionsDry air dehumidification has been widely implemented in both military and commercial applications for many years and as a result, there is no lengthy development or integration requirement – the solutions are tried, true and timely.
Consistent QualityWith more than half a century pioneering the design and manufacture of top-quality dehumidification systems, our suppliers have more units in operation than all other manufacturers combined. And with a network of support worldwide, you can feel confident not only in their proven reliability, but also a level service that exceeds your expectations.
